You haven’t heard from us for a while, but there’s a very good reason. We’ve been working hard behind the scenes re-architecting Trakt and building the platform our community deserves.

This is no mere patch job. The Trakt website and API have been completely rewritten from the ground up. New branding. New design. Mobile optimized. New servers. New code base. Renewed dedication.

Read on for an in depth look at what we’ve been doing for the last year.

The Brand.

Strong branding is essential, and we’re stoked to reveal our new logo and identity! The generic TV set is long gone, supplanted by clean retro lines and a modern brand to build upon. It might have taken a few revisions (or 20) to get here, but we couldn’t be happier with where we ended up.

The Website.

Go check it out! We’ll wait for you to come back.

Welcome back. We worked closely with Darick Dang on the logo rebrand and website redesign. It was a lot of fun going through all the early concepts and continuing to refine what you see today. Darick has a behind the scenes look available on his website.

The website is fully responsive which means it will look great on your 27" monitor, 9.7" iPad, or your 4" mobile phone. Gone are the days of depinching to view info on Trakt.tv!

The API.

This deserves it’s own blog post (coming soon), but the new API is a huge step forward from version 1. The 2.0 API supports OAuth (finally!), uses modern conventions, and will be heavily cached (on our side and with Cloudflare). The documentation looks beautiful on apiary too.

There are a number of apps already updated (or will be released very soon) to use the 2.0 API including Movist (iOS), Infuse (iOS), SeriesGuide (Android), and MediaPortal (media center).

Faster Servers.

Trakt 2.0 is running on all new hardware for a faster and scalable experience. Special thanks to all the VIP members since your support directly helps us afford these servers at Amazon! We seriously could not have done it without you guys.

We have several dedicated caching servers which means faster website and faster API access. We’ll continue to optimize the site so it doesn’t slow down like v1 has been lately.

The Features.

We plan to write more in depth blog posts that focus on specific features of Trakt 2.0. Look for those blogs to start appearing in a few weeks.

Full Time Effort.

Trakt has been around for over 4 years (wow!). We have close to 800k members and millions of interactions per month. It’s safe to say, we’ve evolved from passion project status to something a lot bigger.

We’re super excited to announce that Justin is now working full time on Trakt! Dedicating 40 hours per week is going to be a game changer. This is how we’re going to finish up the aforementioned features ASAP after the 2.0 launch.

Thank you.

A huge thank you from the three of us, to all members of the Trakt community. Your excitement for the site drives our excitement. Your VIP memberships help cover our overhead. 2015 is going to be an amazing year for Trakt.tv!

Happy watching,
Justin, Sean & Jimmy
